Round The Twist on the North Tyne Industrial Estate at Benton describes itself as the largest soft play in the North East, and after a major refit it lives up to the claim with a huge multi-level frame, drop slides and a dedicated toddler area for the youngest children. A recent addition is an arcade that is completely free to use with admission, with no coins or tokens needed, and there is a large café for the inevitable refuelling. Admission is tiered by age, and a meal-deal ticket bundles play, a main and a drink for older children.

It is a few minutes out from the city centre by car or on the Metro to Palmersville or Northumberland Park, which makes it an easy trip when you want the biggest frame and the longest session rather than a quick play in town. It suits a mixed-age group well, since the scale of the frame gives older children plenty to do while toddlers have their own area. Grippy socks are required, weekends and holidays are busy, and current prices and opening hours are best checked on the centre's own website before travelling.
