About Dance City

Dance City is the North East's National Dance Agency, a charity based in a purpose-built dance centre on Temple Street, close to the Centre for Life and a short walk from Central Station. Its bright, sprung studios host a large weekly timetable of classes for adults and over-55s, as well as performances, artist development and space hire, and it also runs a venue in Sunderland.

For children and young people aged 4 to 17 there is a term-time programme of weekly classes, concentrated on Saturdays, covering styles such as pop steps and ballet for 4 to 6-year-olds, contemporary, breaking and ballet for 7 to 11s, and hip hop, teen ballet and contemporary fusion for 12 to 17s. Classes are booked online, and the centre also runs occasional workshops, including aerial sessions on trapeze and cocoons.
