Hopscotch Play Café opened its city-centre branch on the third floor of Fenwick's Northumberland Street store at the end of 2025, a second site after its original in Gosforth. It combines five themed play zones for children from babies up to age twelve with a genuine café offering local, freshly made food, good coffee, homemade cakes and a licensed bar, so it works as much as a place for parents to meet as a place for children to play. The design is bright and well thought out, with areas pitched at different ages so babies and older children are not competing for the same space.

Because it sits directly on the main shopping street it is the most central soft play in Newcastle, a couple of minutes from Grey's Monument and easy to fold into a day in town. Walk-ins are welcome, but at busy weekends and in the school holidays booking a ninety-minute session is the safe way to guarantee entry. Grippy socks are needed for the play area, and the café means the adults are looked after while the children wear themselves out.
