About Eldon Square

Eldon Square is the city centre's main indoor shopping destination, spread across a large covered complex between Northumberland Street, Percy Street and the old Georgian square that gave it its name. The first phase opened in the mid-1970s and it has been extended and remodelled several times since, most substantially with the St Andrew's Way and Grey's Quarter additions, which brought a run of full-size flagship stores and a dedicated dining area under one roof. It connects directly to Fenwick and the Northumberland Street shops, so a wet afternoon can be spent moving between them without stepping outside.

For a rainy day the appeal is simply that almost everything is under cover and warm. Grey's Quarter gathers a cluster of chain restaurants and casual eateries with plenty of family seating, and the centre also holds an Odeon cinema, so a browse can turn into lunch and a film without a coat. It is a short walk from Monument and Haymarket Metro stations, both of which have covered access, and the centre publishes its opening hours and store list online. Facilities include lifts, accessible toilets and a customer service desk, which makes it an easy default when the weather closes in.
