About East End Pool
East End Pool is on Hadrian Square in Byker, a short journey east of the city centre and easily reached by Metro or bus, and it is one of the most family-friendly swimming venues in Newcastle. It is run on the council's behalf by Better and pairs serious swimming provision with plenty for children, which makes it a popular weekend choice for families across the east of the city. The centre has also been designated a Cool Space for use during summer heatwaves. The main pool is a 25-metre, six-lane design used for lane swimming, lessons and aqua classes, and there is a separate teaching pool for learners plus a flume that is a firm favourite with children. Away from the water there is a gym with free weights and cardio kit, a studio for fitness classes, a soft play area, a sauna and a steam room. Opening hours run from early morning to evening on weekdays with shorter weekend sessions, and the pool operates on a published timetable that separates lane swim, family swim and lesson time, so checking ahead is sensible if you are travelling for a particular session.
