About Dame Allan's Schools

Dame Allan's Schools were founded in 1705 by Eleanor Allan and are among the oldest schools in the North East. They follow a distinctive diamond structure: after a co-educational junior school, boys and girls are taught in separate schools that share a single campus in Fenham, before coming back together in a co-educational sixth form. The model is designed to combine the focus of single-sex teaching in the middle years with the breadth of a mixed sixth form, and the schools run strong programmes in sport, music and the performing arts.

The campus sits on Fowberry Crescent in the west end of the city, a couple of miles from the centre and well served by bus routes, and the schools take pupils from age three upward. Admission is by assessment at the main entry points, with means-tested bursaries available. Families considering the schools should book an open morning and read the most recent ISI inspection report.
