About Childsplay Nursery

Childsplay Nursery is one of the most distinctive childcare settings in Newcastle: a non-profit parent co-operative that has run since 1982, rated Outstanding by Ofsted, taking children from babies through to school age. Because it is a co-operative it is run for the benefit of the families who use it rather than for profit, with parents involved in its governance, and it has built a long-standing reputation in the city over four decades. It occupies premises on Claremont Place, just north of the city centre on the edge of the university quarter and Jesmond.

The nursery's position makes it genuinely convenient for parents working or studying in the centre, being a short walk from Haymarket and the universities and close to the Metro. Like all good settings near the middle of the city its places are in demand, so early enquiries and a waiting-list application are sensible, and a visit in person is the best way to get a feel for the atmosphere and the outdoor space. It offers funded early-education hours alongside paid sessions.
