About Boiler Shop
Boiler Shop occupies the 1823 Robert Stephenson and Company works between Forth Street and South Street, the site where Locomotion No. 1 and Stephenson's Rocket were built. Locomotive production moved away in 1904 and the Forth Street works finally closed in 1960, leaving the Grade II* listed workshop empty for decades. Restoration was completed in 2016 as part of the Stephenson Quarter development and the building reopened as a live venue in 2017. It keeps its industrial character, with exposed brick, an iron roof structure, the open shop floor and a mezzanine gallery above. Two areas are hired: Shop Floor and Mezzanine. The Mezzanine is licensed for civil and humanist ceremonies and takes up to 150; the Shop Floor holds up to 400 for wedding breakfasts, dinners, awards nights and product launches, with a minimum of 100 adults on weddings. Gigs are fully standing. Catering and licence times are quoted per booking. The ground floor is step free, a lift serves the Mezzanine, and the viewing bay takes four wheelchairs plus six seats. There is no on-site parking; Stephenson Quarter car park is about 400 metres away and Newcastle Central Station is a short walk via the Neville Street exit.
