About Live Theatre

Live Theatre is a new-writing theatre on Broad Chare, just off the Quayside, operated by the charity North East Theatre Trust. Alongside its programme of new plays, it runs a substantial programme for children, young people, schools and communities.

Live Youth Theatre meets weekly in term time, with groups for 10 to 13-year-olds on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and for 14 to 16-year-olds on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, all from 6pm to 8pm. The year moves from learning theatre skills in the autumn to making a performance for an audience in spring and building skills in summer, and the theatre fundraises to keep the youth theatre free for participants. Sign-up opens in the summer holidays, with a mailing list for spaces that come up mid-year. Older participants can move on to Live Young Company for 17 to 25s, and there is a summer school in July.
