BBC Radio 6 Music Festival Coming to Newcastle in March 2027

The BBC Radio 6 Music Festival is coming to Newcastle. It will run from Monday 15 to Friday 19 March 2027, with five days of gigs and DJ sets at independent and grassroots venues around the city.

This is the festival's second visit to Tyneside. It was last held here in 2015, the year after it began. The 2026 festival was in Greater Manchester.

What to expect

The week will include gigs and DJ sets, plus a BBC Introducing night for new and emerging artists. Highlights will be broadcast on 6 Music and BBC Sounds, with performances also going on the BBC Music YouTube channel.

The line-up and venues will be announced in 2027. Newcastle has a strong grassroots music scene, with venues such as The Cluny in the Ouseburn and the Boiler Shop near Central Station. However, no venues have been confirmed for the festival so far.

6 Music presenter Lauren Laverne said: "It's fantastic to see the festival return to the North East."

A spotlight on grassroots venues

The festival is built around small, independent venues, so a week of national radio coverage puts the spotlight on Newcastle's grassroots music scene, and the BBC Introducing night gives new acts a chance to be heard.
