The Bridge Tavern sits on Akenside Hill, tucked into the arches immediately below the Tyne Bridge, which gives it what is probably the most photographed beer terrace in the city. It is run by the Vaulkhard Group, whose other Newcastle venues include The Town Wall, Redhouse and Bealim House, and it trades as a brewpub and eatery, combining a craft beer range with a kitchen that takes its sourcing seriously.

The food is described as locally sourced seasonal British comfort cooking, and the Sunday menu is unusually specific about provenance, listing its roast joints by farm and breed across beef, pork and lamb alongside a vegetarian option, all served with roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. A longer two or three course Sunday menu is available around it. The terrace is the main draw in good weather, so booking is worth it at any time of year.
