Bacchus

A long-established real-ale pub on High Bridge whose ocean-liner interior celebrates Tyneside's shipbuilding heritage, a repeat CAMRA award winner with around nine handpumps.

About Bacchus

Bacchus is a long-established real-ale pub on High Bridge, run by the Newcastle brewer and pub company Sir John Fitzgerald, whose interior pays tribute to Tyneside's shipbuilding and industrial past. The room is styled after an ocean liner, its walls hung with photographs of the ships, collieries and engineering works that once defined the region, and it pours around nine cask ales alongside a wide range of craft keg beers, making it one of the strongest beer destinations in the city centre.

The pub has been a repeat winner of its local CAMRA branch's Pub of the Year award and a regular entry in the Good Beer Guide, drawing a mixed crowd of after-work drinkers, beer enthusiasts and shoppers. Its High Bridge address places it in the run of characterful bars and barbershops between Grey Street and Pilgrim Street, a couple of minutes from Monument Metro and close to the Duke of Wellington further along the same street.
