About NIPO
NIPO is a Japanese-Brazilian restaurant that opened at 95 Quayside in September 2026, created by the team behind RIO Brazilian Steakhouse. It reimagines Brazilian hospitality through a Japanese lens, with sushi prepared at a live counter, robata dishes cooked over charcoal, and Brazilian specialities such as flame-cooked picanha, alongside larger sharing plates. The name nods to the Nipo-Brazilian community, the Japanese-Brazilian culture that inspired the concept.
Led by general manager Goran Natev, who brings experience from London's premium hospitality scene, NIPO sits on one of Newcastle's most competitive restaurant stretches, a short walk from the Millennium Bridge, the Baltic and the riverside bars. Its pitch of 'fire, flavour and generosity' fuses two cuisines the city usually serves separately.
