About WYLD
WYLD is a live-fire restaurant that opened inside Freight Island on Newgate Street in September 2026. Its kitchen is built around cooking over open flame and glowing embers, the primal, smoke-scented style of grilling that has become one of the defining restaurant trends of recent years, brought here into the middle of the city rather than to a rural destination.
Sitting within Freight Island, WYLD adds a dedicated sit-down dining room to a venue already known for its bars, street-food traders, events and covered social space. It gives city-centre diners somewhere for a longer, fire-cooked meal a few minutes' walk from the Grainger Market and Monument Metro, without leaving the buzz of one of Newcastle's liveliest spaces behind.
