About St James' and St Basil's Church, Fenham
St James' and St Basil's is the Church of England parish church for Fenham, consecrated in 1931 and funded by the shipowner Sir James Knott in memory of his sons James and Basil, who were killed in the First World War. The church and its parish hall are both listed buildings and remain at the centre of community life in this part of the west end.
Alongside Sunday worship and a strong music tradition, the church hosts a cafe, rooms for hire and a range of activities in the parish hall, from exercise classes to local history and craft groups. It is also home to the 82nd Newcastle Scout Group, which runs Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts here during term time.
