About North East Mayoral Strategic Authority

The North East Mayoral Strategic Authority is the regional body led by the elected North East Mayor. Formed on 7 May 2024 as the North East Combined Authority and renamed in May 2026, it brings together County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland councils, with work covering areas such as public transport, adult skills and regional investment.

The authority is based at The Lumen on St James' Boulevard, close to the city centre. The Mayor's office can be contacted by email at mayorsoffice@northeast-ca.gov.uk or by phone on weekdays, and the Mayor holds regular public Mayor Meets question-and-answer events across the region.
