Ngon Café opened in early 2023 as one of the first dedicated Vietnamese spots in the heart of the city, tucked onto Low Friar Street a short walk from Stowell Street and Chinatown. It has built a strong following for its fragrant pho, crisp banh mi baguettes, fresh summer rolls, lemongrass pork and mango salad, with an extensive but approachable menu that reviewers repeatedly describe as authentic, generous and good value. Recent reviews have been warm about both the food and the friendly service.

It works well as a light, fresh alternative to the heavier city-centre takeaways, and the banh mi in particular makes an excellent quick lunch to carry off. It is a small café, so at busy times a collection order can beat waiting for a table, and it is easy to reach from the Central Station and Grainger Town end of town. Note that it closes on a Thursday, and prices are notably reasonable for the quality and freshness on offer.
