Newcastle Buddhist Centre

Triratna Buddhist centre on Westgate Road offering a free weekly meditation drop-in, introductory courses on Buddhism and meditation, study groups and day retreats.

About Newcastle Buddhist Centre

Newcastle Buddhist Centre is part of the Triratna Buddhist Community and is run by ordained members of the Triratna Buddhist Order together with friends of the centre, under the registered charity Triratna Buddhist Community (Newcastle). It sits at 187 Westgate Road on the western edge of the city centre and says it has been teaching meditation and Buddhism in a friendly, supportive environment for more than 35 years. No prior experience or Buddhist faith is needed to attend.

The main way in for newcomers is a weekly meditation drop-in, open to everybody with no formal charge and run on donations, while the six-week Believe in Change course introduces Buddhism and meditation in more depth and is booked through Eventbrite. Regulars can join the Going Deeper study group and fortnightly Sangha Sundays, and the centre holds day retreats through the year. There is a bookshop and a small library open around public events. Under-18s must be accompanied by an adult, and current class times are listed on the centre's website.
