About Lindsay Bros Quality Fish & Seafood

Lindsay Bros has held a counter in the Grainger Market since 1936 and is approaching ninety years at the same trade in the same Grade I listed hall. It is a wet fish and shellfish counter rather than anything cooked: whole fish, fillets, crab and whatever the boats have landed, sold over a slab to anyone cooking at home.

The family still collects from North Shields Fish Quay, which is the short answer to why the fish is better here than in a supermarket, and a good share of the city's more serious kitchens buy from the same counter. Market hours apply, so roughly half eight to half five Monday to Saturday and closed on Sunday, which makes this a weekday or Saturday errand rather than a weekend one.
