King Neptune has traded at 34-36 Stowell Street since 1986 and describes itself as the longest running Chinese restaurant in Newcastle upon Tyne. The kitchen leans on seafood, with lobster, crab, scallops and squid alongside regional standards such as Peking-style spare ribs, aromatic crispy duck and Szechuan chicken. It is a comfortable, spacious room with a fully licensed bar, set in the middle of Chinatown a short walk from St James' Park. Service runs in two sittings: lunch from noon, then dinner from 6pm, with a later 5.30pm start on Saturdays. The restaurant advertises a function room but publishes no capacity figure, so party numbers need a phone call. The Christmas menu is built on five banquets priced per person, each with tiers for two or three, four or five, and six or more diners: Opal Vegetarian at £28.80, Pearl at £32.80, Jade at £36.80, Emerald at £38.80 and Diamond at £56.80. A 10% service charge applies for the month of December. The restaurant closes on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. St James is the nearest Metro station.
