John Bardgett & Sons has served Newcastle families since 1914, when John Bardgett left his previous employer to set up on his own at Westgate Road, on the corner of Elswick Row. More than a century later the firm still works from Westgate Road, now at Oakwood House further west towards Fenham, and is part of the Dignity group of funeral directors.

The Oakwood House funeral home has four private chapels of rest and a service chapel seating up to about 30 people, and the team arranges traditional funerals, burials and cremations as well as simpler options including an unattended cremation. It is a short drive from the city centre and from West Road Crematorium. As with any funeral director, it is fine to ask for a written estimate and compare prices before deciding.
