Christmas on Grey Street Pop-Up Bar Opens on Lights Switch-On Night
A festive pop-up cocktail bar called Christmas on Grey Street opens in the former Leila Lily's on Thursday 12 November, with a Christmas movie room and a charity hot chocolate, until Christmas Eve.
Grey Street is about to gain a new festive stop for anyone heading into town for the lights, the market or a show at the Theatre Royal. A pop-up bar called Christmas on Grey Street will open in the former Leila Lily's building for the six weeks before Christmas.
When it is open
The bar opens on Thursday 12 November, the same night as the Newcastle Christmas lights switch-on on Grey Street, with live music the following evening. During November it will open Thursday to Sunday, then every day in December from noon. It closes for good at 6pm on Christmas Eve. There are no reservations, so it is walk-in only.
What to expect
The pop-up is run by the Malhotra Group, which also owns the Grey Street Hotel. Alongside the main bar there is a Christmas movie room showing festive films with the sound off and subtitles on, plus free mini popcorn. The windows have been painted with murals of characters from Home Alone and Love Actually.
Drinks prices have been published in advance:
- Christmas cocktails at £9, or two for £15 during happy hour (5pm to 7pm)
- Classic cocktails at £8, or two for £14 during happy hour
- A self-service Guinness machine, plus drinks from Hawkstone
A charity element
For every hot chocolate and Aperol Spritz sold, £1 will go to Children's Cancer North, a North East children's cancer charity.
Making a night of it
The pop-up sits close to the Newcastle Christmas Market, which runs on Grey Street, Grainger Street and around Grey's Monument from 19 November to 23 December. For more ideas for the season, see our Christmas in Newcastle guide and our round-up of bars and cocktails in Newcastle city centre.
The opening was reported by North East Connected, with the switch-on night opening date confirmed by Brit Brief.
