Victoria Tunnel Guided Tour
Guided underground tours of the Victoria Tunnel, the Victorian waggonway that became a Second World War air-raid shelter.
About This Event
Ouseburn Trust guides lead visitors through the Victoria Tunnel, a Victorian waggonway beneath Newcastle that was used as an air-raid shelter in the Second World War, covering its construction, its wartime use and the landmarks above it, including the line of Hadrian's Wall. Tours meet at 51 Lime Street for a safety briefing before walking to the tunnel entrance. Children must be over 7 and accompanied by an adult; the tunnel is about 12C with damp, uneven floors, so flat shoes and a light jacket are recommended. Advance booking is required and tickets are non-refundable.
