About Tiny Tiny

Tiny Tiny is the current name of the business that began in 2010 as Flat Caps Coffee, widely credited as Newcastle's first speciality coffee shop. The rebrand kept the same team and the same site on Carliol Square, a quiet corner of the eastern city centre between New Bridge Street and Pilgrim Street, a few minutes from Northumbria University and the old Carliol House. The room is light and carefully put together, with a proper espresso bar rather than a counter bolted onto a cafe, and beans are roasted by the associated Roast Smith Coffee, so the coffee list changes as new roasts come through.

As well as coffee the kitchen runs breakfast, brunch and lunch prepared in house, with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes on the regular menu, plus a counter of bakes. It opens daily from early morning until mid-afternoon, and takes table reservations, which is unusual for a coffee shop of this size and useful at weekends. There is outdoor seating on the square and the cafe is dog friendly. It also sells gift vouchers and retail bags, and runs online ordering for collection, so it functions as a bean shop as much as a place to sit.
