St Joseph's Home (Little Sisters of the Poor)

CQC-rated Good nursing and residential care home for older people on Westmorland Road, run by the Little Sisters of the Poor and the closest care home to the city centre.

About St Joseph's Home (Little Sisters of the Poor)

St Joseph's Home is run by the Little Sisters of the Poor, a Catholic congregation that arrived in Newcastle in 1866 and moved to the Westmorland Road site shortly afterwards. The home was extensively renovated from 1989 into a modern nursing and residential home for older people, and is registered with the Care Quality Commission for up to 58 residents. Admission is open to older people regardless of faith.

The home sits on Westmorland Road on the western edge of the city centre, a short walk from Central Station. CQC rated it Good across all five key questions in a report published in May 2022, and a July 2023 review found no reason to reassess that rating. Families considering a place should contact the home directly about availability and read the latest CQC report.
