About Oliver's Cafe Bistro
Oliver's trades from a pair of units in the Grainger Arcade, the glass-roofed avenue running through the middle of the Grainger Market. The market itself opened in 1835 as part of Richard Grainger's rebuilding of the city centre and is Grade I listed, and the arcade is its grandest stretch, so this is a cooked breakfast eaten under one of the finest pieces of Victorian market architecture in the country. The room is a market cafe rather than a styled brunch spot, with the noise of the trading hall around it.
The kitchen keeps to British cafe cooking done properly: a full breakfast as the headline, alongside sandwiches the market describes as the size of doorstops, homemade scones, cakes and a solid cup of tea. It is open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 5pm and, like every trader here, closed all day Sunday, which matters if you are planning a weekend fry-up in the centre. Tables are walk-in only.
