About Mowgli Street Food Newcastle
Mowgli, the Indian street food brand founded by Nisha Katona in 2014, opened its Newcastle restaurant on 14 March 2025 in the former Cafe Royal, a Grade II listed building on Nelson Street beside the Grainger Market. It seats around 96 across two floors, with booths, indoor swing seats and the chain's signature tree-root decor.
The menu focuses on herb-led Indian street food and home-style dishes served as small plates to mix and match, rather than conventional curry-house starters and mains. It is a lively room that suits groups, families and a break during a shopping day in Grainger Town.
