About Laneway & Co

Laneway takes its name and its template from Melbourne, where its founder learned the trade before returning to Newcastle, and it applies that template to exactly the right street: High Bridge is a narrow cobbled lane of independent retailers running between Grey Street and Pilgrim Street, the closest thing the city centre has to an Australian laneway. The room is small, hard-surfaced and busy, with counter seating and a few tables, and it has been a fixture of the Newcastle specialty scene for years.

House espresso is Allpress Redchurch, with rotating single origins from Square Mile and others on filter, and brew methods including pour-over and Aeropress for anyone who wants to sit with a cup rather than take one away. The pastry and cake counter is a genuine part of the offer rather than an afterthought. A second Laneway trades on Front Street in Tynemouth. Monument Metro is two minutes away, which makes it the easiest specialty stop to fold into a shopping trip.
