About Kiln
Kiln is a small independent on Hume Street in the Ouseburn valley, the former industrial quarter below Byker that has become the city's most concentrated cluster of independent food, music and studio space. It runs as two things in one room: a daytime breakfast and brunch kitchen, largely vegetarian and vegan, and from late afternoon a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern small-plates restaurant.
Brunch is served from 10am to 2pm Monday to Saturday and stops an hour earlier at 1pm on Sundays, so it is worth checking the clock before making the walk down. Coffee is its own, the cakes are homemade, and there is a cocktail list for the evening service. Tables can be booked online for parties of up to eight, but it deliberately holds plenty back for walk-ins, and dogs are welcome.
