Khai Khai

Fire-led Indian restaurant on Queen Street, a few steps from the Quayside.

About Khai Khai

Khai Khai sits on Queen Street, the short run between Broad Chare and the river, in the tight grid of lanes behind the Quayside that has become the city centre's densest cluster of independent restaurants. The kitchen is built around live fire, with tandoor and charcoal grilling central to the menu rather than an add-on, and the cooking is Indian without settling into the standard British curry-house template. The dining room is dark, lively and fairly large for the area, and it takes bookings as well as walk-ins, which makes it one of the easier good tables to get in the Quayside quarter on a busy Saturday.

Menus are built for sharing, with grilled meats, fish and vegetable dishes ordered alongside breads and sides, and there is a separate takeaway and delivery operation through the restaurant's own ordering site. It serves lunch and dinner Monday to Thursday with a break in the afternoon, runs straight through from noon on Friday and Saturday, and opens noon to mid-evening on Sunday, with last orders taken shortly before closing. Its position makes it convenient for the Live Theatre, the Sage across the river and the Quayside hotels, and it is a common pre-theatre choice.
