About Bodega
Bodega stands on Westgate Road next door to the Tyne Theatre and Opera House, and is one of the best known real-ale pubs in the city centre. Its two large stained-glass domes are the architectural feature people remember, set above a single long room that fills quickly before gigs at the theatre and before matches at St James' Park, which is a few minutes' walk uphill.
Run by Sir John Fitzgerald, the pub keeps a rotating range of cask beers alongside the regulars and opens from 11am. It is a traditional drinking pub rather than a food-led one, and its Thursday quiz has been running long enough to have its own regulars.
