About Assemble

Assemble is a basement space on Old Eldon Square, the garden square behind the shopping centre that holds the war memorial, and it is the second venue from the team behind House in Heaton. It works on a split format: specialty coffee through the day, then a natural wine bar in the evening, which is still a relatively rare combination in the city centre and gives the room two quite different atmospheres.

Coffee comes from Resinn, a Newcastle roaster, and it is one of the only places in the city serving Vietnamese egg coffee, the Hanoi-style drink of whipped egg yolk and condensed milk over espresso. From Thursday to Saturday the evenings run with the Asian-influenced Soku Kitchen in residence, doing small plates, sides and sandwiches against a full natural wine list. Being below ground on a square rather than on a main street, it is easy to walk past without noticing. Monument and Haymarket Metro stations are both a couple of minutes away.
