Best Estate and Letting Agents in Newcastle City Centre

From a Grey Street sales and lettings office to student-housing specialists on Percy Street and Newbridge Street, here are the estate and letting agents with offices in Newcastle city centre.

Newcastlecity.live·

The property market in the middle of Newcastle works differently from the suburbs. Most homes are flats and apartments rather than houses, renting is far more common than buying, and a large slice of the market is shaped by two universities whose campuses sit right on the edge of NE1. That means the agents worth knowing here tend to be strong on lettings, comfortable with apartment blocks and, in several cases, specialists in student housing.

All four agents below have offices inside the city centre, so you can walk in, drop off keys or sit down to talk through a valuation without leaving town. If you are new to the area, our guide to moving to Newcastle city centre covers the neighbourhoods themselves.

Sales and lettings

Living Spaces

Living Spaces has its sales and lettings office on Grey Street, one of the handsomest streets in Grainger Town, and has been working in and around Newcastle for more than twenty years. It is a trading division of Kingston Property Services, a firm best known for residential block management, which suits a city centre where so many homes are flats within managed buildings.

The agency covers buying, selling, renting and letting, and its property management side looks after homes for over 400 private landlords (that team works from the Kingston Park office rather than Grey Street). It is a member of Safeagent and The Guild of Property Professionals and offers Client Money Protection.

Best for: Best for city-centre flats, and for landlords who want sales, lettings and management under one roof.

Hunters Newcastle Central

Hunters Newcastle Central is at 65 Percy Street, close to Haymarket Metro and the Eldon Square end of town. Hunters is a national franchise network, and this branch is independently owned and operated locally, so you get the reach of a big brand with a local team running the office.

It handles both sales and lettings: free valuations and a managed sale for vendors, and for landlords a choice running from tenant-find through to full management. The branch displays ARLA Propertymark (Protected) and The Property Ombudsman memberships and holds Client Money Protection. Saturday appointments are available by arrangement.

Best for: Best for sellers and landlords who want a national brand with a locally owned branch.

Student and professional lettings

Seekers Property (Walton Robinson)

Seekers Property at 101 Percy Street is the current trading name of Walton Robinson, a name many Newcastle students and landlords will already know. The firm describes itself as independent student housing specialists, and its lettings cover student house shares, international student accommodation and bills-inclusive packages, alongside homes for working professionals.

For landlords it offers lettings, refurbishments and buy-to-let advice. It shows ARLA Propertymark Protected and The Property Ombudsman membership. Its Percy Street office is a short walk from both Newcastle University and Northumbria University.

Best for: Best for students looking for a shared house, and landlords with student portfolios.

Bricks & Mortar

Bricks & Mortar has been helping Newcastle landlords and tenants since 2003 from its office at 140 Newbridge Street, on the eastern edge of the centre towards Shieldfield and the Northumbria University city campus. It lets to both students and professionals, and also handles sales, valuations and full property management.

It lists an unusually complete set of accreditations: ARLA and NAEA Propertymark, Safeagent, The Property Ombudsman, the Property Redress Scheme and the Trading Standards Approved Code, plus Client Money Protect.

Best for: Best for students and young professionals, and landlords who want sales and lettings from an independent.

How to choose an agent

Check the registers. Every letting agent in England must belong to a government-approved redress scheme (The Property Ombudsman or the Property Redress Scheme) and hold Client Money Protection. You can confirm a firm's membership on the Propertymark, TPO and PRS websites rather than relying on a logo.

Selling a flat. Get at least three valuations, and ask each agent how many similar apartments in the same building or street they have sold recently. City-centre flats vary a lot by block, so local evidence matters more than a headline figure.

Renting as a student. The student lettings cycle in Newcastle starts early, often months before the academic year. Ask what is included (bills, broadband, furniture) and who handles repairs. Since the Tenant Fees Act 2019, letting agents in England cannot charge tenants for viewings, references or admin; the main permitted payments are rent, a capped deposit and a capped holding deposit.

Your deposit. A landlord or agent taking a deposit on an assured shorthold tenancy must protect it in a government-backed scheme (such as the DPS or TDS) and give you the details. Ask which scheme yours is in.

Council tax and services. Once you have moved in, our guide to council services in Newcastle city centre covers council tax, bins and parking permits.
