The Ivy and The Ivy Asia Coming to 102 Grey Street

The Ivy Collection is opening two restaurants side by side in a Grade II listed former bank at 102 Grey Street, creating around 200 jobs. Both are due to open this winter.

Grey Street is getting two new restaurants under one roof. The Ivy Newcastle Brasserie and The Ivy Asia Newcastle will open next to each other at 102 Grey Street, a Grade II listed former bank that dates from 1839. They will be the brand's most northerly venues in England.

The building sits in Grainger Town, a short walk from the Theatre Royal. It is the former Lloyds Bank building. The two restaurants will have more than 200 covers between them, and the operator says the opening will create around 200 jobs.

Two restaurants, one listed building

The interiors are by designer Adam Ellis. They keep the building's 4.5-metre ceilings and original arched windows. The Brasserie will have bespoke wallpapers and illuminated green onyx. The Ivy Asia will have its signature glowing agate floors, hand-gilded ceilings and glass detailing.

The Brasserie will serve breakfast, brunch and dinner seven days a week. The Ivy Asia menu will include sushi and set menus. Beth Cole will be general manager and John Guthrie head chef.

Kate Cooper, the group's Restaurant Operating Officer for the North, said: "We are incredibly excited to be bringing The Ivy Collection and The Ivy Asia to Newcastle for the very first time."

Best for: The Ivy Newcastle Brasserie and The Ivy Asia Newcastle are at 102 Grey Street, Newcastle upon Tyne. No exact opening date has been announced yet. Opening is expected this winter.

A boost for Grey Street

Grey Street has some of the finest classical architecture in the city, and giving a former bank a new use is good news for this part of Grainger Town. Theatregoers will have two more options before and after a show.

The announcement was reported by Get Into Newcastle, NE1's city centre guide, and by Brit Brief. We will add both restaurants to our directory once they open.
